Our clinic is preparing to offer psychedelic assisted therapy, specifically psilocybin assisted therapy; a powerful, evidence-based treatment model. The use of this naturally occurring medicine dates back to as early as the 1500’s for spiritual and medicinal purposes. It has been proposed that psilocybin may serve as a catalyst for healing in Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD and Complex or C-PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and substance abuse disorders. Under the supervision of a trained clinician, this medicine may be a profound tool that may help to create a blank slate where one can access his/her/their current experience without a lens contaminated by past experience. It is proposed that assisting in the removal of stagnant, unhelpful thought patterns and allowing access to new insights and connections should be more adaptive for one’s well being. The therapeutic model includes preparation sessions for intention setting, dosing sessions where the medicine is administered, and integration sessions where the experience is processed with a specialty trained clinician.

Oregon has been the first U.S. state to implement legislation allowing the use of this medicine and establishing psilocybin assisted therapy centers, with Colorado following behind, though it has yet to be legalized on the federal level. According to The CT Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (DMHAS), the anticipated FDA approval of psilocybin is 2025.
